About
About DPR Institute
DPR Institute is the working name for Derifield Physical Sciences Research, an independent research practice by Jacob Derifield. The work spans physics, electronics, chemistry, astronomy, and sustainability.
The common thread is measurement. I build instruments, write analysis code, and run experiments that can be checked. The record for each project includes the question, the method, the data, the code, the result, and the limits. The first formal project is TESS transit timing; the other research areas are in development.
I am completing a bachelor's degree in physics. No credential beyond that degree in progress is claimed. DPR Institute has no staff, no governance, and no legal formation; the name describes one person's research practice, not an employer or an accredited body. No institutional affiliation is claimed.
How the work is recorded
- Calculations live in code with tests, not only in prose. The TESS package and its tests are under research/tess-timing/.
-
A claim is either sourced, derived with the method shown, or marked
UNVERIFIED. The research notes and the manuscript use that rule. - Each project states its status. Working notes are labelled as working notes. Preprints and published papers are listed with their identifiers on the publications page.
- Every figure on this site is generated by a script in the repository, and each caption names the generator.
- Citations resolve to a DOI, an arXiv identifier, or an archive URL. The register is docs/TESS-LITERATURE.md.
- The source repository is private at this revision. The site mirrors every record it cites under /records/ so a reader can check the evidence without an account.
Independence
No institutional affiliation is claimed. DPR Institute is not a university, a company, or a funded institution. The work is independent, and any project that is supported by a grant, client, or collaborator will say so on its own page.
About the build
The site is a static Astro build. It has no analytics, no tracking, no external font service, and no client-side framework. Body text uses Source Serif 4, interface text uses IBM Plex Sans, and code uses IBM Plex Mono. All three are self-hosted through Fontsource. The design takes the text-first record page as its reference: research plates, field notebooks, and observatory records. Colour, type, spacing, and measure are defined once as custom properties in one stylesheet.
A reader who needs to cite a number should follow the evidence link to the committed record and check it there.
