## Selection rule

The committed docket was walked in recorded order. Candidates were considered
by `docket_position`, and the sectors of each candidate were probed in the order
recorded in that candidate's `sectors` array. The walk stopped at the first
accepted pair.

A saturation guard skipped any docket row whose recorded TESS magnitude was
below 7.0. The comparison is strict: a row at exactly 7.0 would have been
probed. A pair was accepted only when MAST returned one SPOC light curve with
`t_exptime` equal to 120 s and one SPOC target pixel file from the same TIC,
sector, and observation.

Thirteen rows were skipped by the saturation guard. The first row that passed
the guard was position 14. Its first sector, 56, returned both products, so no
other sector or row was probed.

## Selected target and sector

- Target: HD 209458 b
- TIC identifier: 420814525
- Sector: 56
- Docket position: 14
- TESS magnitude recorded in the docket: 7.1274
- Docket sector span: 2022-09-02T18:16:02Z to 2022-09-30T15:26:10Z
- MAST obsid: 97942919
- MAST observation identifier: `tess2022244194134-s0056-0000000420814525-0243-s`
- Cadence: 120 s, from the MAST observation row (`t_exptime = 120`,
  `provenance_name = SPOC`)
- FITS header check: both files report `TICID = 420814525` and `SECTOR = 56`

The docket marks this sector `POSTDATES_REFERENCE_YEAR` because its start year
is later than the year of the cited ephemeris. That is a one-sided date
comparison. It is not evidence that the published ephemeris omitted sector 56,
and no such claim is made here.

Both files were downloaded by
`research/tess-timing/scripts/fetch_products.py --download` with a per-file cap
of 67,108,864 bytes. They were copied to the local names without editing or
recompression, and the SHA-256 values above were recomputed from the local
files.

## What was not done

- No light curve was fitted, detrended, or folded.
- No transit time, period, depth, duration, or ephemeris was measured.
- No transit or transit timing variation is claimed.
- No claim is made that sector 56 is absent from the published ephemeris or
that the target is suitable for a timing measurement.
- No synthetic fixture, hand-entered target, or earlier download was used as a
  substitute for either product.

## Limits

- The archive response is a snapshot from `2026-10-23`. Product availability
and file bytes can change in a later MAST release.
- The docket order is a deterministic reading order, not a ranking.
- This record establishes that two archive products exist and were downloaded.
It does not establish data quality, contamination, crowding, or whether the
target shows a detectable transit in this sector.
